This was such a fun piece to create because I completely let go; I stopped worrying about whether it was "too creepy" and just painted. But is it actually creepy? Is it weird? Some might say so, but others might find it silly and whimsical.
To me, it has a nostalgic feel—like being back in elementary school, lost in a book of wild fantasies. I keep going back to that feeling of looking at those old book illustrations. I think elementary school is so precious because it’s that last bit of innocence before we start trying so hard to fit in and be "cool." Maybe I’m just trying to connect with that inner child in a weird, whimsical, and slightly uncanny way.
